Goal Setting

Each year, most of us set New Year’s resolutions with great hope, motivation, and enthusiasm. Within a few weeks though, they become a distant memory and life goes on as it did before. Well, here is what some of the experts have to say about achieving success with your New Year’s resolutions:

  • Get an accountability partner and send each other daily or weekly updates about your progress on your goal (your New Year’s resolution).  Your accountability partner can be your best friend, (more…)

So, we are already a few weeks into the new year. How are your New Year’s resolutions holding up? If you are llike most people, you are already asking…”What resolutions?” (more…)

For years, I talked about being a coach. I coached people all the time and I never did anything about it. I went the way of the corporate world and dreaded being away from my kids. Then, I kicked myself in the butt, got up onto my feet and started taking actions. Clearly, talking about wanting to be a coach never really got me anywhere. I needed to stop delaying what I wanted and begin moving forward. Now, in a matter of just a couple of months, I have created a career and a lifestyle I can love and enjoy. AND… the best part is, I get to work everyday to make a difference. I imagine a world where people are not afflicted by preventable illness and disease and I get to contribute to that world everyday. A world where people know 4 Health Inc. is a support system they can use to achieve their natural glow effortlessly. Does it all happen overnight? No, absolutely not BUT, it requires action—not more delay, not more talking, not more thinking.

Momentum does not get created on its own nor does it take place in your mind alone. What are the health and wellness goals you are committed to? What have you been doing to achieve those goals? What is one action you can take today to move you a step closer?

Many of my clients are trying to reduce their stress levels. No, it doesn’t happen overnight but it doesn’t happen when they simply state that they want to or need to. Their stress levels decline when they look at the areas where stress is bubbling over and they identify the actions they can and do take.

What are you trying to accomplish? What action can you take right now that will give you a result and stop delaying your progress? Please share with us!!

Just this week, one of my clients reminded me of something I heard a long time ago—After his wife died, it seems that Albert Einstein pretty much wore the same thing all of the time. When he was asked about it, he mentioned that he did not want to think about trivial things – he was much more concerned with his research and teaching.
When I was reminded of this, I automatically thought health and wellness—and making it easy. Einstein had a method in place that allowed him to get dressed without him even having to think about it. Now, I am not advocating that you eat the same thing everyday, do the same workout, or anything of that nature. When I think about this though, it is pretty clear that some things may be worthwhile being “automatic.” I know I prefer to spend my time thinking about how to help my family and how to help the world. So, here are some ideas for putting some things on automatic and spending time on the things that really matter:
  • Spend a half hour a week planning your meals—not only will you stop worrying about what you are going to have for dinner, but you will save money on your grocery bill.
  • Put your exercise time, play time with your kids, and meditation time on the calendar so you do not have to think about it.
  • After grocery shopping, wash off some fruits and veggies and have them ready and prepared for snacking. When you feel hungry, there is no thought or washing required- it’s all ready!
  • Place a large cup of water next to your bed before you go to sleep so you can drink it and begin hydrating the moment you awake—without thinking about it!
  • Always pack some healthy snacks when heading out with your kids
What other ideas do you have? We would love to hear them!

After lots of hard work preparing the soil, growing, planting, weeding, and watering, I am finally able to start seeing the results of all of my hard work. We have been happily enjoying strawberries, lettuce, string beans, romano beans, and zucchini straight from the garden. The tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, broccoli and more are also well on their way. What’s this have to do with health and wellness you ask?

Well, besides having healthy, organic produce growing in my own garden, this really serves as an analogy.
Sometimes, the things we do for our health and wellness are a little bit like gardening. We might not see the results immediately and heck, when we are working hard, it may in fact seem like we will never produce results. Do you know what I mean? You might be trying and trying to eat well but not seeing the numbers on the scale go down or your family changing their eating habits.
The garden also requires constant care. The weeds are always growing and it seems like there is always more to clean. Just like our bodies, minds, and spirits. We are always in need of cleaning out the junk to make room for new, beneficial growth.
Just like my garden though— you will reap the fruit of you labor! Hang in there and you WILL see the results!

Listen up— the REAL truth is: NO ONE is perfect. I know this is sometimes hard to believe but anyone and everyone can lose sight of their health goals.

Maybe you have set a goal to workout 5 days a week. The first week you are totally motivated and actually workout 7 days in a row. Then week two you do the same. All of the sudden, come week three, you have to attend your son’s graduation (which happens to fall during your workout time), and you have a family member in the hospital you need to visit, and you just are not “in the mood.” So, you only workout 2 days that week. At that point, you have two choices. You can either be totally frustrated and annoyed with yourself or you can get up and get going again. You can recommit the next week and aim for 5 days a week again. Easy question– which choice will lead you to your desired result???

So, when you find yourself stuck, not doing what you said you were going to do or finding your commitments fall by the wayside, take a moment to regroup, recommit and get back up and into the game. You’ll be glad you did!

What are you going to recommit to this week?

All of us have at least one goal as it relates to health and wellness. We usually even know exactly what we need to do to achieve the goal—- but, we just don’t do it. Well, why the heck not? One reason may be lack of structures for support.

Unfortunately, things don’t happen simply because we say we want them to— they happen when we start taking action.

You might want to lose weight and even know how to do it and yet your pantry might include chocolate chip cookies and potato chips. Maybe you even think that you have enough will power to simply avoid eating those things. Perhaps you say that you keep them in the pantry just in case the kids want them (hmm… do you really want your kids eating those things??)

Unfortunately, without any structures in place, you won’t be very successful in losing weight. Now, if you cleaned out your pantry closet and only stocked whole, nutritious foods, well, then you would have a structure in place for eating healthy. You could also place a bowl of fresh fruit on the kitchen counter or perhaps have a glass of water by your bedside every night and drink it before you even get out of bed in the morning. You wouldn’t have to rely on will power.

Regardless of what your goal is— one key to success is putting structures in place!

Oh yeah– and of course working with a coach is an excellent structure ;D

Share some of your successful structures.
