You can take control over your health
Your health IS your life.
When asked about the number one thing in life, my answer always has to be health. No, this is not because I am incredibly passionate about health and well-being. No, it’s not even because I absolutely love being a nutritional consultant. The truth is, there is nothing that really makes a difference if you don’t have your health. You can’t enjoy money, can’t enjoy your family and friends. In fact, without your health you simply can not live. So, in my mind, it is the most important thing we have.
Many people would concur with this view yet, most people don’t actually take control of their health. They leave it to their doctors or their genes or will power or to luck.
Truth is though, we all have power over our health. Each and every one of us. If I catch a cold (which I rarely do… but with 3 small kids… it can happen), (more…)

For the most part, health is a choice.
It is a choice we make each day. It is determined by the environment we choose to live in, the stress we choose to take on, the food we choose to eat, the exercise we choose to engage in and the care we choose for our bodies.
This is great news! It means that we have control. It also means that we have to make our choices count.
Health is also a journey though. Most people do not go to bed one day eating the Standard American Diet and then wake up raw food vegans the following day. Generally, there is a gradual process of “stepping up” for health.
I like to view our health choices along a spectrum. On one side of the spectrum is a pure junk food diet, stressful living and no exercise. On the other end of the spectrum there is pure eating, healthy exercise, and lower stress living. Where you are on the spectrum is simply where you are. If you choose to have vibrant health, then you choose to move further on the spectrum.
As we grow and evolve our health, we move along that spectrum. As we learn more, moving along the spectrum becomes easier and our choices naturally follow suit.
Years ago, I would have never thought that I could live without cannolis. Afterall, it was only a once in a while indulgence. Today however, you could put one in front of me and I would just not be able to eat it. I did not get to this point overnight, but as my diet has evolved, so have my preferences.
So, be patient with yourself, keep moving forward on the spectrum and you will be amazed by the journey. One choice at a time and one step at a time.

It is a new year and many people have added weight loss to their list of resolutions. Now, wouldn’t it be good to have it on the list this year and not have to put it on the list next year because you don’t have any more weight to lose? Of course that would be WONDERFUL! Unfortunately, for many people this resolution is on their list year in and year out.
Einstein said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. Let’s put an end to the insanity and do things different this year. Here are some counterintuitive tips to make weight loss drop from your list of resolutions next year: (more…)

Do you ever feel like the woman in the picture? Completely frustrated with trying to get your kids to eat healthy? Don’t despair.
Believe it or not, picky eating is a part of childhood. Yes, the whole picky-eating-thing is a developmental stage that young children go through. The good news is, you are not alone. Many parents are experiencing the exact same issue. Truth is, if you focus on healthy eating, your children do not have to be destined to be junk-food-a-holics. So, as they go through this developmental phase of their lives what can you do? (more…)

The “Dirty Dozen” and the “Clean 15″ are the names of lists of fruits and veggies that have been ranked according to their pesticide levels. These lists, put out by the Environmental Working Group indicate those fruits and veggies that should ideally be eaten organic and those that do not always have to be. According to the Environmental Working Group, if people consumed their five servings of fruits and vegetables each day from the “Clean 15″ list instead of the “Dirty Dozen”, they would reduce their exposure to pesticides by 92%.
So, what are on the lists? Here they are:
- Apples

Are you suffering from the aftermath of Halloween? Experiencing a cloudy head, lethargy, muscle aches, drowsiness or insomnia, mood swings, uncontrollable sweet cravings?
Yes, you may very well be suffering from a candy hangover!
No, I am not kidding. Sugar has a tremendous impact on your body and can leave you in pretty bad shape. Not only does it weaken your immune system and leave you more susceptible to sickness but it also steals B vitamins and magnesium from your cells as your body tries to process it. In addition, sugar causes an inflammatory response in your body and forces your adrenals to release adrenaline.
It is no wonder you might not be feeling well today if you indulged for Halloween.
So, how can you recover? What are the remedies for a candy hangover? (more…)

If you know me, you know that I am not a fan of the flu vaccine at all. It is not something that I will ever get for myself and my family. In addition to the research that shows its ineffectiveness, the lack of testing done on the vaccines, and its questionable side effects, I believe that there are many ways in which we can strengthen our immune system so that we naturally prevent the flu. Here are some: (more…)

Do you want to know what is in your food? Do you believe it is important to know what you are putting in your body and what your children are putting into their bodies? I know I ABSOLUTELY do! Unfortunately, current government policies do not allow us to do so. In fact, the way federal policies are currently stated, it seems that chemical companies and seed companies have the upper hand as they can easily hide the facts. As someone who is very conscious about what I put into my body and what I allow my kids to put into theirs, this is a MAJOR concern.
The truth is, in the United States, companies can produce foods with genetically modified ingredients and not have to mention it. (more…)

Allergies can be a real pain! They leave your head in a fog, your face screaming for pressure relief, your ears clogged and your nose running as if it were in a marathon. There are many different ways to manage your allergies and to prevent them. One simple way: manage your indoor air quality.
Having a high quality, indoor air purifier can mean the difference between carrying around a box of tissues all day or not. It can also mean the difference between getting a good night’s rest or not.
There are a lot of different air purifiers out there. It is recommended to get an air purifier with a HEPA filter. The air purifiers I use in my own (and also offer for sale) are IQ Air purifiers. I, personally, feel that that are head and shoulders above the rest. Unlike most other air purifiers, they filter over 100x more pollutants than the average air purifier with its patented HyperHepa technology. In fact, they are the same units used and trusted by hospitals worldwide.
IQ Air filters stand out above the rest because they have been proven to filter out the ultrafine particles (smaller than 0.1 microns), which are known to be the most harmful to our health. These particles are the most dangerous ones because they are small enough to breathe into your lungs and then absorbed into your blood stream. These smaller particles also represent the bulk of the pollutants in our air (over 90% of airborne particles are 0.1 microns or smaller). On average, IQAir would remove 99 out of 100 pollutants in the air, as opposed to removing only 5 to 10, between 5-10% of airborne pollutants that a standard HEPA filter would remove.
